Moving forward

A week and a bit ago a very good friend of mine from high school saw my blog post and basically told me straight up that I needed something a bit more if I was thinking of heading somewhere with my photography. He explained to me how important it was when marketing yourself to own your online identity. And basically how easy it was to switch. Which is all explained here at Social Connect Blueprint; Trevors Company.

So yes I have done it. I now am the proud owner of......... lol my name and a new much improved blog.

Anyways, I hope those of you who travel here will check it out as I will be phasing this out and posting soley there. Thanks again and hope to see & hear from you in the future.

Silhouette's

So I have been trying to work on some sunset shots and have always been intrueged by silhouette shots so I took these two tonight and am pretty happy with them.

Lighthouse

So on my travels in Victoria we went to this wonderful bay or as they call it lagoon and I saw this lighthouse. I think I may have sharpened it a tad too much in PP but hope you enjoy none the less.

Stormy Weather

So last night was the first storm I have been home for lately where it didnt absolutely poor buckets. I initially saw the moon over our canola fields and tried to get a great shot of that but unfortunatly I failed lol. When the lightning show rolled in without rain I set up for about 30mins and took some pictures. I am still puzzled how people get such sharp focus in the dark lol. Enjoy.

Timing

Last night I went to Calgary to see a very good friend whom I hadn't seen in awhile. She is visiting from San Diego and her parents live right behind Spruce Meadows. For those of you not familiar with this venue it is the most notable Equestrain Centre in Western Canada. I'm a firm believer in fate and timing and last night as we walked around the grounds we happened upon a group of individual jumpers. My childhood hero Ian Miller was just about to take his turn around the ring. It was amazing. I happened to take these pictures after I got over the childish glee of seeing my hero. This was my first time trying to capture moving subjects. Not the best but I was happy with them.

Ug....

So the last two weeks have been so busy for me that I havent had any opportunities to go out and really shoot what I want. Rain, hail and other time constraints made it virtually impossible for me to be out where I want to take some more pics. There were many times I wish I had my camera but hadnt been carrying it with me. So today I know its a cliche but I took some flower pictures after it rained. Nothing exciting. I wish I could figure out how to properly close out the weed on the left of the peony is bugging me but I tried quickly to clone it out and it looked very obvious. If anyone has any tips let me know. I am waiting patiently to order my Sigma 105mm Macro at the end of the month since I think that macro will soon become addicting to me. Hope you like these.

Just think its only 5 minutes away.

So this summer my goal is landscapes. I really love trying to capture a picture just how I saw it. Im sure its always nice if someone else likes your pictures but in reality its only if the image portrays how you truly felt and what you truly saw in THAT moment, is the picture a success. Horsethief Canyon is literally 5 minutes away from my farm. So last night amidst the 50km winds I ventured out with my hound to try and take some pictures. Now I forgot that a smaller aperature is best for better landscape pictures but these are my most favorite shots from last night. Any and all comments appreciated.

Here I Am

So last week I was trying to do a self portrait and you would think easy peasy. Not at all. First thing I notice is my onboard flash really bites. Leaves hot spots etc all over. But thats what I had to work with. The natural light from my window just wasnt enough. Anyways I really wanted to try the eye sparkle feature in PSE8 and I think it worked ok. I havent done anything else to the photo other than cropping. I know I cut my arm shoulder off but it was really hard doing this inside and trying to keep the kids from killing the tripod haha. Anyways if anyone has any comments feel free. Im off tonight to go try and get a landscape of Horsethief Canyon.

Penny

So arriving back from Regina at the grocery store I ran into the president for our local Humane Society. He asks if I know of anyone looking for puppies. Of course me sucker that I am say what kind etc. He tells me how over May long weekend. these 4 german shephard cross puppies were found along side the road by a couple of Good Samaritans. Naturally they were looking for foster homes so of course I volunteer my services lol. This is a picture of the sweet girl Penny. She came with the name Jackie but my husband hated it and since I gave him no forewarning that I was bringing her home I felt it was only fair to let him pick a new name.

Seeding time.

Just for my husband. Gotta keep him happy with farming pics since he allows me to spend our money on my hobby.

Busy Busy

May long weekend came and went. I was off in Regina for my best gal Melinda's wedding. Went out to the Leg grounds and took a couple pics. The goose pictures is SOOC and I swear these things are evil. The parliment building I did a bit of pp to it.

Face Palm Im a Noob.

So we have some great weather and things are super busy on the farm but I snuck out for a couple hours last night to try and take some decent pictures of the horses. Well let me tell you the newbie mistakes I made.

1.Forgetting your manual at home and your camera comes up with an ERROR message and locks up.
2. Not bringing a spare memory card.
3. Forgetting that your in the horses pasture and seeing a great shot and not looking down before you kneel. Yuck, gross.

So anyways these are SOOC. Hope you like them. Please feel free to comment for C&C.
I know the silhouette could be darker, but still learning that one and I know the ear on my gelding is cropped off. Piss me off, I think if I had his entire head it would have been a nice shot.

Bloody Hell its cold out there.

So I am a big baby and hate the weather we have been having. Snow, sleet and rain. Makes me extremely cranky. Not too mention I cant go out and practice my shooting so anyways today I sucked it up and went out to practice. Here are three of my favorite shots from today.

Yesterday

Ok so manual controls freak the crap out of me. I get all wiggy with the exposure meter and tried to overcome some of this yesterday. I love this truck down in our binyard. The only crappy part is its mixed in with junk all around in. No clear shot. Had the tripod out and was messing around with the other one. I like the exposure on my dog Jake although obviously I cut off his feet and tail. The camera was on the tripod and I was trying to adjust quickly for pictures. Only post was cropping the truck and adjusting the levels a bit.

Couple I like.

So I recently took some pictures around the farm and am trying to work on my composition as well as figuring out the different program modes of my camera. Not sure if its a hit or a miss. If anyone is out there let me know what you think.

Finally some sun. So for the last three days it has been pissing rain. It rained so much it shorted out our landline. Today the sun is shining and I am going to go out and do some shooting. Now of course I missed the full moon but if it stays clear enough I will take some shots tonight. Catch you later then.

Holy Buttons Batman

So its official. I am the proud new owner of a Nikon D90. I dabbled in photography in high school with my best friend Kiely. The photo club had a whopping 2 members to it. So needless to say we used all the darkroom time and shooting time possible. Back then it was a little Minolta 35mm SLR. Great little camera for me to learn on. Now 14 years later I am trying to remember things like the holy trinity of exposure; the photographic triangle, sunny 16 and the rule of thirds. Its enough to make my head spin. I like blogging and my goal is to keep a record of my photographic journey.

A little bit of background information. I am a mother to three gorgeous little heathens I loosely call children and am married to a wonderful man. We live in rural alberta. Far enough south that in the summers its freakishly hot but still has freeze your knackers off winters. We farm grain and have no real livestock other than a handful of alpacas and a couple of horses. Of course these wonderful animals are my oh so tolerant models. I promise not to bore you too much with a bijillion cat/critter pictures less I become the crazy cat lady. Anyways I hope I find a couple fans and if not well this might serve to remind me of my progression into this wonderful hobby.
